The College of Wooster’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents two student theatre productions
The College of Wooster’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present two original student productions Feb. 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Shoolroy Theatre, located in the Freedlander Theatre building (329 E. University Street). The two pieces, La Guerra Inside Me by Teresa Ascencio ’23, and Grief Live! By Amari Royal ’23, were devised as part of senior Independent Study projects. Both students were advised by Jimmy A. Noriega, professor and chair of theatre and dance.
La Guerra Inside Me is a devised, solo theatrical work, written and performed by Teresa Ascencio ’23, a senior majoring in theatre and dance and communication studies, that explores the themes of self-identity and acceptance. This autobiographical dramedy touches on what it means to be mixed-race and the prospect of connecting to one’s roots when they are deeply intertwined with pain and traum
Grief Live! is an acting recital devised and directed by Amari Royal ’23, a senior theatre and dance and music major. The scenes and musical numbers in the recital are structured based on the five stages of grief and aim to show the effect of performing grief on the actors as well as the audience.
These performances are free and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved by visiting the Freedlander Theatre box office from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, by calling the Box Office at 330-263-2241, or online. The productions will run back-to-back with a ten-minute intermission between shows and an approximate runtime of 90 minutes. For the safety of the cast and crew, all audience members will be required to wear masks.
