Wooster mourns passing of economics professor John Cook ’69
John Cook ’69, retired adjunct professor of business economics at The College of Wooster, passed away on Dec. 28, 2023, in Wooster, Ohio, at the age of 76. Cook served as an associate professor of business economics from 1981 until 1995 and continued his work as an adjunct professor from 1995 until 2004 while also growing his career in business.
During his time at the College, Cook was dedicated to providing high-quality educational opportunities to his students and was a mentor to many. He was the chair of the Department of Business Economics during the 1990-1991 academic year, and also took part in the Wooster Business Seminar, which connected small and medium-sized businesses with financial and strategic management techniques, linking real-world business with Wooster’s liberal arts approach.
Cook graduated from Wooster with a degree in economics in 1969 before going on to receive an MBA from Dartmouth College Amos Tuck School of Business Administration and a doctorate in finance and accounting from Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management in 1988. He was also a certified public accountant, providing financial services to clients in the Wooster community as a shareholder and partner at Long, Cook, and Samsa, Inc.
An endowed scholarship in his name, the Professor John P. Cook Endowed Scholarship Fund, has been established to financially support future students who attend Wooster. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, 445 N. Bever St. Wooster, on March 18 at 11 a.m. A full obituary is available here.
