Title: A Comprehensive Review of Cybersecurity Threats and Mitigation Strategies to Secure Health Data for a Full-Stack Web Application
Major: Computer Science
Advisor: Heather Guarnera

The healthcare industry faces a growing threat landscape, with cyberattacks targeting sensitive patient data. Breaches can not only cause financial losses but also compromise patient privacy and even endanger lives. This comprehensive review explores the cybersecurity threats affecting healthcare institutions and analyzes various mitigation strategies. I delve into both technical and non-technical methods, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses to empower developers and healthcare institutions with a well-rounded understanding of security options. This research explores the implementation of preventive features within a secure web application designed for healthcare. This includes secure login systems, multi-factor authentication, activity monitoring, and data encryption techniques. By examining existing threats and exploring potential solutions, this research aims to contribute to a more robust cybersecurity posture for the healthcare industry, highlighting the importance of data protection across all sectors. This research lays the groundwork for further exploration. Future studies could involve vulnerability assessments of specific healthcare systems, analyses of mitigation strategies, or even development of user-friendly training programs for healthcare personnel. These steps can lead to a more secure and resilient healthcare infrastructure, which could result in safeguarding patient data and ensuring the continued delivery of quality care.

In doing this research, I was driven by my passion for solving real-world problems and exploring new knowledge, which is why I delved into the critical field of cybersecurity in healthcare. This research excites me because it tackles a significant societal challenge and offers the potential for impactful solutions.
