Strengths in forward thinking, innovative academics, and collaborative inquiry foreshadow evolution of Wooster education in annual report
At The College of Wooster, students engage in an education built on liberal arts connections through a community of Independent Minds, Working Together, a tradition in lifelong learning embodied in its alumni. Wooster fosters the opportunity to create new knowledge in a diverse environment founded in forward thinking, innovative academics, and collaborative inquiry. This fall’s Annual Report Edition 2023-24 of Wooster magazine demonstrates how that powerful educational experience continues to evolve to meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges based on Scot strengths and community collaboration.
The annual financial review reports on the College’s operating revenues and expenses and highlights the ways donors have endorsed the Wooster education in the past year. Donors like Xiaorui “Ray” Bao ’11, a mathematics alumnus, and history major Dan Griffis ’94 share what compels them to give back to Wooster students and increase the value of their alma mater. Combined support from individual donors, reunion classes, and Wooster’s Women’s Advisory Board honor key figures from Wooster’s history including Dr. Viola Startzman Robertson ’35, medical director from 1956-79 and Vivian Holliday, dean of faculty from 1977-85 through new gifts to support funds in their names.
The report also covers the evolution of the Pathways programs, experiential learning, academic programs, and employee engagement, as well as the latest achievements of athletes, faculty, students, Wooster Preschool, and other College news. Alumni profiles highlight the Distinguished Alumni of 2024: Bob Heatherington ’74 and Jim Maiwurm, among other awardees Reunion Weekend—an annual event that welcomed nearly 700 alumni from the classes of 1959-2019 in June.
Reaching mailboxes in mid-November, the Annual Report Edition 2023-24 of Wooster is available online here and past issues of the magazine are available in the Open Works repository.
