The Buckeye, Women in Science, Engineering, and Research (B-WISER) summer camp will return for summer 2025, offering young girls completing grades seven and eight the chance to indulge in science-related interests. Hosted by The College of Wooster and funded by The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, B-WISER aims to encourage girls, a minority group within STEM fields, to engage in the sciences including geology, physics, engineering, chemistry, and biology.

The B-WISER summer program will take place from June 16-21, 2025, on campus, hosting girls overnight as they explore the College’s state of the art science labs, take a full day of courses, and attend presentations by women working in a variety of scientific fields. In the evenings, attendees can participate in a variety of scientific activities and demonstrations, such as exploring light waves and polymers.

Founded at the College in 1990 by Lois Cook, former assistant camp director of B-WISER, and Ted Williams, former chemistry professor at the College, B-WISER encourages current Wooster students to volunteer at the camp to help with a range of tasks, including hosting activities, giving demonstrations, and presenting panel discussions. The all-female camp has encouraged young girls to pursue their interests in science for generations, giving them the confidence and background to continue studying within the field.

“This camp really opened me up to all of the possibilities that I could have with a science career,” one prior camper wrote. “I’m planning on getting my doctorate degree in audiology!”

The cost for the B-WISER summer camp is $660, and limited scholarships are available. The registration deadline is April 30, 2025.
