Giving Woo Day celebrates connection and impact at Wooster

Sunlight filters through tall oak trees surrounding the College of Wooster entrance sign, which reads “College of Wooster — Founded 1866,” on a bright autumn day.

On Nov. 5, The College of Wooster community came together to celebrate Giving Woo Day, raising $507,793 from 596 individual donors and surpassing this year’s Giving Woo Day goal. All gifts made on Giving Woo Day support The Wooster Fund, which supports each student with opportunities throughout their college years to forge life-long friendships and learn from impactful mentors.

Throughout Giving Woo Day, under the theme of Empowering Connections, donors demonstrated their commitment to Wooster’s students by also taking advantage of generous matching opportunities, which doubled the value of many contributions. This resulted in an outpouring of support that underscores the belief in Wooster’s transformative educational experience.

“Giving Woo Day showed the incredible power of our community,” said Carolyn Ciriegio ’08, vice president for advancement. “When Scots come together with a shared purpose, we make great things happen, and this year’s success is proof of that.”

Gifts to The Wooster Fund touch virtually every area of campus life, provide the flexibility to meet the College’s greatest needs, and ensure that Wooster continues to deliver on its promise of academic excellence, mentorship, and student opportunities.

Support for The Wooster Fund directly impacts the following areas:

  • Financial Aid: Ensuring that Wooster is accessible to all so the College can continue to educate students based on their strengths and potential, not their ability to pay.
  • Experiential Learning: Supporting the College’s commitment to integrating intellectual and professional work, realizing students’ impact both at Wooster and around the world. These funds support APEX and all experiential learning opportunities for Wooster students.
  • Mentored Research: Helping to develop innovative, productive research initiatives for Wooster students, including the nation’s leading program for mentored undergraduate research.
  • Campus Life: Helping to create the Wooster experience for each student, based upon the College’s rich history of traditions. These funds support student organizations, leadership programs, multicultural affairs, and much more.
  • Faculty & Staff Support: Supporting areas such as professional development, faculty research, and sabbatical, these gifts enable our faculty to be leaders in their fields, bringing groundbreaking research into the classroom.
  • Area of Greatest Need: Supporting every aspect of the College and advancing the mission and vision of Wooster.
