Presidential search process moves to review phase

presidential search update

Dear College of Wooster community,

During my last update I shared the exciting news that the College had launched the presidential prospectus advertising the search for Wooster’s 13th president.

The presidential search committee remains committed to conducting a fair and equitable search process free of bias. Members gathered this summer to discuss mitigating bias in evaluation and interviewing candidates, applying consistent criteria for reviewing candidate materials, and to discuss the market for presidential candidates.

We also conducted an initial review of the progress of the search and shared feedback with our partners at Storbeck Search to guide further recruitment efforts. We are very excited about the early positive interest in this opportunity from candidates with broad, diverse, and well-qualified backgrounds and experiences. As we actively reach out to sources and prospective candidates to develop our pool, we again remind alumni, faculty, staff, students, family, and friends to continue to send nominations for presidential candidates to us at WoosterPresident@StorbeckSearch.com.

In other news, Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Ashley Reid has joined our search committee, replacing Lori Makin-Byrd, who is no longer with the College. We thank Ashley for agreeing to step up and serve in this capacity.

All members of the search committee will have much work to do behind the scenes as the start of the fall semester approaches and we move into the most time-intensive and confidential phase of the search—identifying potential candidates and conducting in-depth interviews.

While we won’t be able to communicate many details publicly between now and the announcement of Wooster’s next president to ensure the best candidates come forward with a willingness to engage in conversation, we do look forward to sharing updates on the process as we move ahead.

The hiring of a president is one of the Board of Trustees’ most important responsibilities and we are grateful for the continued trust and support of our family of Scots!

With gratitude,

Peter
