Computer science major gains hands-on experience with AI through real estate company internship

Jungho Park '26

Jungho Park ’26, a computer science major and entrepreneurship pathway student at The College of Wooster, spent the summer as an intern for Lombard Standard in Tokyo, Japan. The technology company that utilizes AI to consult commercial real estate companies aided Park in gaining practical skills useful to his field, helping him learn more about AI and how it fits in a work setting. Through his APEX Fellowship, Park solidified his desire to work in computer science.

“This experience will upgrade my resume to the next level and help me apply for jobs during this fall semester.”

FINDING OPPORTUNITIES

Park: I found this opportunity by searching online for tech internships in Japan. Since I had to work as a traveler’s visa, I was unpaid, so the APEX Fellowship helped me cover the housing and the flight tickets to get there.

LESSONS LEARNED

Park: I liked working in a new place, separate from the United States and not my home country of South Korea. I enjoyed exploring new places everyday after work and interacting with local people to immerse myself in the new language. I worked a combination of on-site and remote hours, and mostly focused on helping with the design, build, and refining of AI-driven agents that was used to enhance automation and decision-making for commercial real estate companies.

GUIDANCE FOR GROWTH

Park: My fellowship mentor was Grit Herzmann, associate professor of psychology. Her comments and overall feedback on my weekly reflections were very supportive. Although I was feeling a bit lonely in the beginning of the internship, I felt I was not alone and there was someone who I could rely on.

WHAT’S NEXT

Park: Through this internship, I learned the skills that are needed in the computer science industry. This experience will upgrade my resume to the next level and help me apply for jobs during this fall semester. I also realized that I am a good fit for the industry.
