WOOSTER – The College of Wooster’s Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jeffrey Lindberg, and Jazz Combo, directed by Greg Slawson, will present a concert on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., in Freedlander Theatre (329 E. University St.). The concert will feature drummer and percussionist Mark Lomax.

Lomax is a critically-acclaimed composer, recording artist, drummer, activist, and educator. He specializes in the socio-political and spiritual aspects of African-American art, music, race, and the usage of arts to build community.

Whether he’s interpreting the Negro spiritual through jazz, arranging gospel music for a symphony orchestra, or performing his original works, experts agree Lomax’s music is relevant, probing, and inspiring. Lomax will release his next work, “400: An Afrikan Epic,” in January. It tells the story of Black America over the course of a 12-album cycle.

Lindberg, professor of music at Wooster, is also the director of the highly acclaimed Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Chicago’s oldest professional jazz orchestra in continuous operation. Slawson is the jazz piano and music technology instructor at Wooster.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available at Buehler’s Milltown and Towne Market, the Wilson Bookstore, or at the door the night of the concert. For more information, contact Jeff Lindberg at 330-263-2047.
