MUSC16600. OPERA & LYRIC THEATRE WORKSHOP

The Opera & Lyric Theatre Workshop presents productions that give students the opportunity to learn more about stage craft and the art of operatic singing. Participation is open by audition, and it is not necessary to be a music major/minor or taking voice lessons to participate.

Performances are held annually and have included scenes programs, chamber operas, student compositions, along with “sliced and diced” productions of full works. In addition to standard and contemporary operas, students also perform “classical Broadway” repertoire. Productions reflect a wide range of programming that is appropriate for students’ vocal and artistic development.

Previous programs include: Opera American Style, The Face on the Barroom Floor, Mozart and the Moderns, A Hand of Bridge, Love and Marriage, From Italy with Love, Roman Fever, Victoriana and The Marriage of Figaro.

The Opera & Lyric Theatre Workshop has also provided outreach to the community, recently performing the children’s opera A Gift of Song for over 1,000 elementary students in the tri-county area.
