Open House for Ruth W. Williams Hall of Life Science Set for Friday, Aug. 17

WOOSTER, Ohio – The community is invited to take a first look inside one of the most impressive construction projects undertaken at The College of Wooster – the Ruth W. Williams Hall of Life Science – as an open house for the stunning facility that now houses the biology, chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, neuroscience, and environmental studies programs will be Friday, Aug. 17, from 3-6 p.m. The College’s newest academic building is located at the intersection of Pine St. and College Ave.
During the open house, there will be hosts stationed on each floor of the building who will provide tours, and light refreshments will be served.
Williams Hall, which will be open for students when classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 22, is a facility like no other on campus. It boasts flexible teaching and research spaces designed to support collaboration and interdisciplinary work, which will enhance the close student-faculty collaboration and mentored research that are at the heart of a Wooster education.
Constructed from the ground up over a 24-month period, Williams Hall contains state-of-the-art classrooms, dedicated labs where students and their faculty mentors will pursue their Independent Study research, community spaces for the interdisciplinary conversations that are so important to scientific discovery, and even a greenhouse. Also, it features a lovely two-story commons area and café, which were gifts from The Austin E. Knowlton Foundation, Inc., of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The building is named for Ruth Whitmore Williams ’62, an alumna and trustee of the College from 1994-2015. In addition to their generous support of Ruth W. Williams Hall, she and her husband Morris established an endowed professorship in biology and four endowed scholarships for students during “Wooster’s Promise: A Campaign for Our Future.”
Please note there will be an official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Williams Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27.
