Donald M. Goldberg, a professor of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) at The College of Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – Donald M. Goldberg, a professor of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) at The College of Wooster and consultant at the Cleveland Clinic Hearing Implant Program, was the recipient of the AG Bell Honors of the Association Award at this summer’s Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Convention, held in Scottsdale, Ariz.
According to the AG Bell Association, which helps families, health care providers, and education professionals understand childhood hearing loss and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention, the AG Bells Honors of the Association Award goes to “an outstanding person who is involved with people with hearing loss … (and) demonstrates extreme dedication to and sustained efforts toward the goals and purposes of the association.”
As a faculty member for 17 years at Wooster, Goldberg has played a significant role in raising the profile of its now-flourishing CSD program. He has taught courses at every level, ranging from first-year seminar to serving as an Independent Study (I.S.) advisor of approximately 250 junior and senior projects, and he has been published extensively on topics such as cochlear implants, auditory-verbal therapy, speech-language-auditory assessment, educational audiology, and counseling.
Goldberg has also demonstrated extreme dedication to the AG Bell Association. He was president of the board of directors (2012-14) and of the AG Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language (2008-10), and continues to serve as the organization’s representative to the Council on the Education of the Deaf and to the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH), which sets policy recommendations for the country’s testing of the hearing of newborns and their follow-up for early intervention.
