Scot Marching Band and Pipe Band to perform highlights from fall season in fall concert

The College of Wooster’s Scot Marching Band and Pipe Band will perform in a combined concert on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in McGaw Chapel (340 E. University Street).  

The performance will feature highlights from the ensembles’ fall season, including music performed at pregame, halftime, and in the stands in support of the Fighting Scots football team. The Marching Band is led on the field and in concert by drum majors Anna Puster ’25 and Elizabeth Kotora ’25, and the Pipe Band is led by pipe major Bowen Ault ’25 and pipe sergeant Sam Day ’25.  

Ryan Kilgore serves as the director of the Scot Marching Band, with Jeffrey D. Gershman serving as the assistant director. Kilgore also directs the Percussion Ensemble and teaches classes in percussion. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas and is a renowned marimbaist. He has performed in concerts and given clinics throughout the United States and Europe.  

Gershman also serves as professor of music and director of bands at the College. He conducts the Scot Symphonic Band and Concert Band along with teaching classes in conducting and music education. Gershman received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting degree at The University of Texas at Austin. 

The College of Wooster Pipe Band is directed by Palmer Shonk ’10 and Sean Lawry. Shonk, an alumnus of the College, serves as an adjunct instructor of music at Wooster and competes solo in the professional ranks in Canada, the U.S., and Scotland and serves on the summer teaching staff at the Ohio Scottish Arts School as a piping instructor. Lawry is an adjunct instructor of music at the College, teaching classes in Scottish drumming. He has taught drumming for 23 years, nine of them at Wooster.
