Asia Supporters in Action is a student-led organization at The College of Wooster which focuses on providing a community and cultural enrichment for students of Asian descent on campus and off campus. At Wooster, ASiA (you can tell we worked hard to make that acronym work) provides an environment where students can come together to discuss identities and cultures, plan enriching cultural events, and hang out!
Pre-Covid we would host numerous events on campus including karaoke nights in the Pit, cultural cuisine crusades (going out to Cleveland or Columbus for Korean BBQ or Indian food) and movie nights. We took club trips into the city for dim sum, bubble tea, or whatever other foods club members are craving. Hopefully, if permitted and if it is safe, we hope to revive these social events. We also look forward to hosting food events so everyone within the campus community can enjoy some delicious drinks and treats! Currently, we have done events such as: online game nights (playing Among Us and other games), movie nights and social justice events speaking out against AAPI hate.
Due to the pandemic we have focused on bridging the disconnect between online and offline students as well as engage in Asian representation activism. As many have seen or heard, or even, unfortunately, experienced, Anti-Asian racism crimes have increased within the past year and we are providing a safe place for students to convene and be supported while showing support and solidarity for our Asian communities.
ASiA is a club for its members. That means if there is a certain part of your culture you want to bring to our Wooster community or any event you are interested in us hosting, we can definitely help you make that vision come to life.
