Wooster Science Café begins tenth year with “The Science of Termite Behavior”

Tae-Young Lee

The tenth year of the Wooster Science Café, sponsored by The College of Wooster and The Ohio State University, begins Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at Spoon Market and Deli (144 W. Liberty Street) in the Excelsior Room on the second floor. The season will begin with a discussion of “The Science of Termite Behavior.” This talk is the first in the fall series that will take place this semester to foster conversation and learning about different scientific topics within the Wooster community.

The September talk will be presented by Tae-Young Lee, a postdoctoral scholar at The Ohio State University’s Department of Entomology whose research focuses on termites. Lee will explore termites’ evolution, life history, and sociality, including how these insects differ from other, similar species like ants and cockroaches.

Future events in the fall season will occur at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, also in the Excelsior Room of Spoon Market and Deli. All events will be free and open to the public. More information on upcoming events and their topics can be found on the Wooster Science Café website.

Wooster Science Café was founded in 2013 by Laura Sirot, associate professor of biology at Wooster, and Jeff LeJeune, professor of veterinary preventative medicine at The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. Spoon Market & Deli will provide light appetizers, and additional food and beverages will be available for purchase.
