Wooster invites alumni and families to campus for Homecoming Weekend

Black and Gold Weekend 2023

The College of Wooster’s Homecoming Weekend will welcome alumni and families on Friday, Oct. 18 through Saturday, Oct. 19 to reconnect with classmates and show their Scot spirit.

After check-in begins at the Lowry Center (1189 Beall Ave.) at 2 p.m., the weekend will kick off with a Celebration of the Arts performance at 4:30 p.m. in McGaw Chapel (340 E. University Street). This event features performances by the Wooster Chorus, Scot Symphonic Band, and members of the Theatre and Dance and Art and Art History departments.

Also on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Gault Recital Hall of Scheide Music Center (525 E. University Street), the College’s W Association will induct some of Wooster’s most accomplished athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame. Closing out the night is a concert by the Wooster Symphony Orchestra and Wooster Jazz Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in McGaw Chapel.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, alumni and families can learn more about the variety of real-world work opportunities available to students at the Experiential Learning Showcase, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Andrews Library (1140 Beall Avenue). Then, the Dean of Students Office will present a Community Resource Fair in the Alley on the lower level of the Lowry Center from noon to 2 p.m. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., alumni and families are invited to the Gault Recreation Center inside the Scot Center (1267 Beall Avenue) for indoor recreation time, with games including basketball, pickleball, cornhole, and more.

At 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, the College will officially dedicate its newest piece of campus art, a sculpture titled The Piper, located on the Burden Family Patio of the Lowry Center. Given to the College by alumnus R. Wayne Randolph ’69 and his wife, Wendy W. Randolph, the sculpture portrays a woman playing bagpipes clad in traditional tartan regalia. The Homecoming football game against Ohio Wesleyan University will close out the weekend, taking place at Papp Stadium (626 E. University Street) with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
