Event Descriptions

Choose Your Own Adventure (for students only) – New Student Orientation will be hosting a “Choose Your Own Adventure” night where first year and transfer students may choose from a range of activities to do in various locations throughout the night. So bring a friend, roommate, or come on your own for night of fun!
Students may pick from the options below.

  • Lowry Center, The Alley (G41), lower level – Lowry Center is your student center, serving as the living room of the College. Lowry provides students a vibrant facility to socialize, work, dine, study, shop, find resources, play games, and attend events and meetings. During Choose Your Own Adventure, join the Office of Student Engagement to make Wooster themed room décor. To learn about more events sponsored by Student Engagement, follow @engagementwoo.
  • Common Grounds (located across from Admissions, 836 College Ave.) – Common Grounds (CG) is a student-run organization that provides a substance free relaxed night life atmosphere that strives to be a safe place for the campus community. Open several days a week and weekends, Common Grounds offers fun events and refreshments for purchases, such as Italian sodas, baked treats, coffee, tea, and more. Follow them @cgwooster on Instagram to stay up to date on all things CG. During Choose Your Own Adventure, come play board games with Common Grounds. They will have goods for purchase with cash or card, as well as a variety of board games.
  • The College Underground (located in the basement of Kittredge Dining Hall, 535 Wayne Ave.) – The Underground (UG) is our on-campus bar and programming space. Open several days a week, the UG is a fun place to hang out even if you’re not 21 yet. The UG hosts a variety of events. From small concerts, comedian, chill video game nights, themed nights, and more. And there is always free popcorn and soda! Keep up to date on the UG’s events and hours by following @theugwooster. During Choose Your Own Adventure, come and have fun for this Karaoke Night! **The UG requires a state ID or driver’s license along with your COW card for entry during the school year. For Orientation event, only COW card is needed. No backpacks or outside food or drink permitted.**

New Student Welcome – This is the official welcome to The College of Wooster from President McCall and other guest speakers. Come join the excitement and bring your energy!

Community Expectations and Residence Hall Meetings – Connect with your Resident Assistant as they explain the community expectations for your building and within the College.

Academic Information Sessions – Learn more about your intended major or another interest. See the info sheet in your packet for times and locations.

Magician Derek Hughes – Come and be shocked and awed by this amazing performer.

March Through the Arch – This is a tradition at Wooster where first year students March through the Arch symbolizing their arrival and welcome to The College of Wooster community. Four years later, students will March through the Arch again as they graduate from the College. Scot Supporters, you will not want to miss this photo opportunity! In addition to the March, The College of Wooster will take a class photo in front of the Arch.

Meeting with the Woo Crew – Your orientation leader at The College of Wooster is called your “Woo Crew” leader. Your Woo Crew leader will help you get adjusted to campus and be vital resource throughout New Student Orientation.

Meeting with Academic Advisor – Meet to discuss or alter your schedule or just connect. This mandatory meeting will help you begin to think through the next four years of study at The College of Wooster.

Orientation Programming – Orientation programming is designed to help students with their adjustment to college. Orientation programming will focus on how to get adjusted to the community, while also focusing on topics such as Title IX and domestic violence.

Residential Belonging – Meet and greet members from your residence hall and others for a fun night of programming.
