Wooster Science Café continues fall season with “The Science of Gerrymandering”

Joseph Coll head shot

Wooster Science Café will continue its fall semester series on Wednesday, October 4, with “The Science of Gerrymandering,” featuring speaker Joseph Coll, assistant professor of political science at The College of Wooster. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Excelsior Room above Spoon Market & Deli (144 W. Liberty Street).

The talk will focus on this political issue from a scientific point of view. Participants will learn what gerrymandering is, how it works, and why it matters in the American political system.

This talk is the second in a series of events that will take place throughout the fall. Occurring the first Wednesday each month at Spoon Market & Deli, future Wooster Science Café events will include:

  • Nov. 1: Brian Webb, director of campus sustainability at The College of Wooster, and David Rice, pastor at First Presbyterian Church, will discuss “Climate Change and the Church.”
  • Dec. 6: Laura Sirot, associate professor of biology at the College, and Chelsea Churpek, social worker and trained sex educator, will present “The Science of Sex Education.”

The Wooster Science Café was established to provide a forum in the Wooster community for dialogue between the public and scientists about contemporary topics. All events are free and open to the public. Spoon Market & Deli will provide light appetizers, and additional food and beverages will be available for purchase. For more information, visit the Wooster Science Café website.
