The College of Wooster’s Scot Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble to perform Nov. 6

The College of Wooster’s Scot Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble will perform in a combined concert on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Gault Recital Hall in the Scheide Music Center (525 E. University Street).  

The performance will feature a wide variety of music, with compositions by Aaron Copland, Victor Herbert, Alex Stopa, and Steven Bryant.  The concert will also mark the first time that composers James Reese Europe, Chen Yi, and Aaron Perrine will have their music performed on the Wooster campus.  

The Scot Symphonic Band is conducted by Jeffrey D. Gershman, professor of music and director of bands at Wooster. Gershman also conducts the Wooster Concert Band and serves as the assistant director of the Scot Marching Band, along with teaching classes in conducting and music education. He received his doctorate in musical arts in wind conducting from The University of Texas at Austin and continues to maintain an active schedule as a guest conductor for bands throughout the country. 

The Percussion Ensemble is directed by Ryan Kilgore, who also serves as the Director of the Scot Marching Band and teaches classes in percussion. He received his doctorate in musical arts from the University of North Texas and is a renowned marimbaist; he has performed in concerts and given clinics throughout the United States and Europe.
