Several types of need-based grants are available to our students that do not have to be repaid. Students must reapply for need-based grants annually by submitting the FAFSA.
Students demonstrating financial need may be offered institutional grant aid in addition to grants from other sources. The major portion of grant-aid received by Wooster students comes from the College itself.
In some cases, the College will identify eligibility and award Wooster endowed scholarships after your initial aid offer has been determined. While this will affect the current breakdown of your financial aid award, it does not increase or decrease the total amount of your financial aid. Endowed scholarships fund an equal amount of existing Wooster Grant funding, which may possibly include merit scholarships. Donors have established these scholarships in order to support the financial aid students are awarded to pursue their Wooster education.
Federal Pell Grants
Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate eligibility according to a federal eligibility formula. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the Pell Grant application. The maximum Pell Grant for 2024-2025 is $7,395.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
Wooster receives and awards Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants to those who qualify on the basis of extreme need. Students receiving a Federal Pell Grant will be considered for an FSEOG. Typically, students are awarded between $100 and $1,500 a year depending on the availability of funds.
Several states (including Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Vermont) offer grants which can be used at The College of Wooster. The first step in applying for these grants is filing the FAFSA. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
Tuition Free Guarantee for OCOG-Eligible Students
The College of Wooster is committed to making a premier education affordable. Due to the generosity of our loyal alumni, Wooster guarantees free tuition for in-state students who are eligible for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG). Students must submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the appropriate deadline each year. The Tuition Free Guarantee consists of grant and scholarship assistance primarily provided by Wooster but also includes state and federal grants. This guarantee began for new students enrolled in the 2020-2021 academic year as full-time, residential students.
