B-WISER Summer Science Camp runs June 12-17

The Buckeye Women in Science, Engineering, and Research (B-WISER), an educational partnership of The College of Wooster and the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, will run from June 12 through 17 in 2020. This week-long residential summer science camp for middle school girls on Wooster’s campus invites applications by April 20 online. After cancelling the program last year, the 2022 season will be open to both 7th and 8th grade female students.

Specifically designed to empower students who are underrepresented in the sciences, B-WISER summer camp offers several financial aid scholarships to support students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Students complete a daily curriculum with classes in robotics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and scientific model building. Campers also meet with female career exemplars who share their journeys in many areas of science and participate in hands-on programs on topics ranging from civil engineering to boomerangs, light, and waves.

B-WISER was founded in 1990 by Lois Cook and the late Ted Williams, a long-time member of the Wooster faculty who tirelessly promoted careers in science and engineering for women and minorities and was nationally recognized for his efforts. Acceptance to the camp is on a first-come basis with a capacity limit of 100 students. The cost for the week is $515.
